How adaptive scoring works
The SAT Reading & Writing section uses multistage adaptive testing:
- Module 1 is identical for all test-takers (mix of easy, medium, and hard questions).
- Your performance on Module 1 determines which Module 2 you receive: a harder set (for students who did well) or an easier set.
- The harder Module 2 pathway makes higher scores (700+) achievable. The easier pathway caps your potential ceiling.
- Even on the easier Module 2, you can still earn a respectable score — it does not automatically mean failure.
This mock test simulates both pathways. After Module 1, you'll receive the appropriate Module 2.
Tips for test day
- Read actively: Underline key claims, transitions, and evidence in each passage before looking at the question.
- Eliminate first: Cross out clearly wrong answers before selecting. Two choices usually remain — pick the one most directly supported by the text.
- Watch "always / never" language: Absolute choices are usually traps. SAT passages are nuanced.
- Flag and move: Don't spend more than 90 seconds on one question. Flag it, continue, and return with fresh eyes.
- No penalty for guessing: Always fill in an answer — even a guess gives you a 25% chance.
